Israel helps England by beating Russia

Russia is ruing a night of missed opportunities after going down 1-2 to Israel in the crucial Euro 2008 qualifier in Tel Aviv. It means Russia's chances of making the tournament now rely on them beating Andorra on Wednesday night and England losing agains
Israel took the lead against Russia in the 2008 Champioship qualifier, by scoring the second goal close to the end of the second time.
Thousands of Russians were watching the big match in the stadium and millions more were glued to their televisions back home.
The Israeli team is out of the championships. But a win for Russia would have almost certainly meant they would have qualified at the expense of England, with Russia only needing to beat lowly-placed Andorra next week to progress.
