Jews and Muslims find common ground in Sweden

Published: 11 June, 2009, 09:40

And just WHY should religion or tradition be above the law? Infant circumcision is not something people choose for themselves, like the self-crucifixions in the Philippines every Easter. Nor is it something that makes only a spiritual difference (whatever that may mean) like baptism. Nor is it an expression of individual religious freedom like gathering together to sing and pray. Nor is it a painless removal of dead tissue that will replace itself, like hair or nails. It is unlike all of those in being imposed on someone who did not ask for it, can not easily or completely undo it, and may well live to resent having it done to him.
