Lebanon: Artillery fire continues

Published: 03 June, 2007, 03:17

After a brief lull in fighting overnight, Lebanese troops resumed bombarding the Nahr al-Bared camp, in a determined effort to uproot the Fatah Islam militants, who have been holed up inside since violence began nearly two weeks ago.

Four Lebanese soldiers are reported killed, bringing to 37 the total number of military fatalities since the siege began on May 20.

The number of deaths among militants and civilians could not be verified, as relief organizations have been banned from entering the camp.

Meanwhile, the militant group battling Lebanese forces in the Palestinian refugee camp has vowed never to surrender.
