There is a 100% chance every "applicant" ; chosen will be dead of radiation exposure long before they get to Mars, the 200,000 mile van Allen belts will make them like fried chicken in 24 hrs.

Does no one see the insanity of this proposition?
...
It is an attempt to turn reality into a movie, wherein real people are going to be sent to their deaths, while we can all watch on TV and/or internet.

Right on point, Jay. I registered just to applaud you for such a bulls-eye statement. They're conducting experiments with human lives - and the people are signing themselves up! But hey, they'll "become celebrities in their towns, cities, and in many cases, countries".

Societal degradation occurring before our eyes.

The secret mars Viking missions in the 70s, a joint program held between the Russians & Americans have led many to believe that some 100 people were sent to mars in two separate missions were contact was lost.

They will work themselves to death, but Cohaagen ends up with all the money. He built cheap domes and watched
the kids turn into freaks. Cheap domes, no air to clean the rays.

There is no way humans will ever inhabit Mars. If even possible to sustain life, it would require massive energy and material subsidies from - where else? - Earth.

This is no solution to any problems we are facing here on planet Earth. It is an attempt to turn reality into a movie, wherein real people are going to be sent to their deaths, while we can all watch on TV and/or internet. Great.

Meanwhile, the devastation of this planet continues unabated.

Get real folks. This is our only home. We need to start acting like it.

If they don't invent the Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator, everything will be fine.

maybe part of fixing earth is to start getting people off earth. Just answering the people asking why we donot fix earth first earth can fix itself if too much of us is not around. I have a question about the about the feasabilty of such a mission mars does not have a magnetic field to shield life from cosmic radiation how will plants grow and how will human life survive in the long term

Brett Durham 02.01.2014 05:58

*cont..
(theoretically) , rendering the planet inhabitable by humans. Therein you have the cure to many societal issues that we may end up facing, even if it brings more problems with the development; think disease, natural disaster, etc.
At least, that's what I've gathered from the bits and pieces I've picked up of the story.

Brett Durham 02.01.2014 05:56

For those of you with the question, "Why are they doing this?", do you not pay attention?
We're sending some people there on a one-way trip to see if it is possible to terraform and colonize. If we start with sealed green houses (from what I understand, the CO2 content on Mars is very, very high) plants will grow very fast and produce quite a lot of Oxygen. From there, you grow more and more plants, and begin migrating them to the 'outside'. Over a long period of time nature will take it's course and entire forests will have been created, which, in turn, will help develop an atmosphere around the red planet *cont.

How exactly does one destroy a lifeless rock? Oh, there may be bacterial life there; but Mars cannot honestly be described as anything other than barren.

They go to Mars because there is already life there...everybody is not stupid. Do people think we are the only living in this whole universe, what a waste of space...NASA know that there is life on Mars, the people that goes there will be ambassadors, why send ambas....

Yeah. Considering that first manned fly was in 1961. Your statement is completely wrong. America did not posses technology or resources to complete such mission.
