Mediastan: WikiLeaks 'Road Movie'

19.12.2013 15:38

What would a former Gitmo detainee, a journalist in a small central Asian newspaper and an editor of a big Western publication have in common? They are provided with documents from WikiLeaks about politics in the region, but what will they do with them?

@jo, That would be exactly the cure for CNN as a NewsCaster! Forgive me if I am wrong, but doesn't CNN, stand for Cable News Network? Come back to your former status! And get 60minutes on the air again! With some serious news in closer analyses! Because you became like a baloon, that the air leaked out of!

Milan Bilek 29.12.2013 21:07

Now I got some answer of why WikiLeaks and Snowden do not publish more documents! But is it really no media outlet on this globe that will help them in this cruisial situation that is the Momentum they have just now! Come on Someone, be brave and be truthful for once! Do not let governments intimmidate you! Now we need real heroes! And not Hollywood made one's or Cartoons!

US cant even have their military bases there anymore (in Uzb and Kyrg). Publishing it can put in jeopardy the life of the publisher and the whole agency. Asking person in Ashhabad about why the local news papers portray only the president, seriously. Do you think they will tell you what they think to the bunch of strangers, who might as well be gov.security fishing for traitors.
Talking about independence in RT, shame on you wikileaks for showing central asia in that light.

CentralAsian 22.12.2013 05:53

I wonder how did they miss Uzbekistan on the way to Afganistan, but that's not the only problem. Why go to the most closed countries in the world and expect something to be published, regardless whether its wikileaks material or some vague info about a local car crash. They clearly dont have any idea about the dictatorship in those countries (besides Kyrgizstan perhaps). Anything that is not approved by the government officials , even the amount of cotton collected p.a. cannot go to local media. Its not because wikileaks info is not interesting, or because US has something to do with it.

We already knew that a handful of people control 99% of media world wide. Thats why more and more people are switching to RT news and independent news orgs.

jo 21.12.2013 18:56

It is true that US controls the news agencies's report around the world, when i traveled aboard, and asked the publisher to translate certain books, the publisher companies said they are afraid of repercussion by their own government and US input, and wouldn't able to do it. the propaganda and control of the world affairs by US is not learned by US citizens in general.
BTW, mainstream news agencies were designed serves as a propaganda machine, promoting wars for profiteering for those elites paying their agencies.

for those believing still that we will learn any truth at all from the main stream news, they are fooled and harmed. RT's reports comply with the off-mainstream agencies web site news channels and documenting the realities that we are facing. about time that a international news agency provides the real news in lieu of CNN world wide, US citizens need understand the plights that we are crossing and change the tidal wave.

Here is another recent RT news article showing mainstream media propaganda:

Mandela’s sharp statements rarely cited in mainstream media

Billd 21.12.2013 08:26

And when he still did very well in the voting, the Republican Nomination Convention squashed him by tearing up Ron Paul signs in front of his supporters at the entrance, then later not allowing in anymore Ron Paul supporters. They also prohibited the Maine delegation in which was going to nominate Ron Paul.
We now have a dictatorship.

Billd 21.12.2013 08:25

I saw the mainstream media, including Fox News, blackout Ron Paul entirely during his run as a presidential candidate under the Republican Party. That proved to me the mainstream media was controlled.

Billd 21.12.2013 08:25

This only confirms the mainstream media role as a propaganda machine run by the ruling elite in this country and now world wide.

Yeah, it's too bad Russia didn't offer Julian Assange asylum and he had to run to his Ecuadorian Embassy Prison, instead.

No doubt Julian wishes he were in Russia with Snowden, taking a leak all over the US gov't.

In a so-called free democracy why should someone need asylum? The truth is we can't trust in law, because it is the politicians who make the law.

It would be very easy and not without prescience for Swedish investigators to interview Julian Assange in London. So far all we know is that they just want to question him. He hasn't been charged.

This documentary film really inspired me. If I had seen this when I was 13 I would've wanted to become a journalist.

It seems to me that the powerful empire uses money to direct journalists all over the world to fit with their propaganda. Everybody has to eat and that empire and its corporations are the only ones spurting money these days. We have entered a new era of serfdom. Money doesn't flow between individuals these days. It moves from the bottom (common folk) to the top (corporations) and then a bit trickles from the top (corporations) to the bottom (us) via jobs/slavery. Where is your food from? Supermarkets?
