Investigators say a Moscow police major, who staged a massacre in one of the capital’s supermarkets, was not alone, Life.ru reports.

They are now looking for another person who arrived on the scene together with Denis Yevsyukov, but managed to escape the police.

Three people were shot dead and six injured at Moscow’s Ostrov supermarket on April 28.

The witnesses cannot give a clear depiction of the person but say that, unlike Yevsyukov, he was not wearing a uniform.

“When that policeman with a gun in his hand appeared he was not alone while approaching the shop. There was another man with him,” injured victim of the massacre Alena Dudal said.

The investigators have examined all the footage from the CCTV recordings, but were unable to track the second person. They suggest he might have fled when the shooting started.

Denis Yevsyukov is now awaiting psychiatric examination, which will not be performed until all the necessary proof is gathered and the characteristics given to the suspect by his colleagues are carefully analyzed, Anatoly Bagmet, the head of the Moscow Investigative Committee, told Interfax new agency.

Victims demand compensation

Meanwhile, the victims of the massacre are demanding compensation from Moscow’s local government for what they have suffered.

“The complainants have contacted me and we are going to raise the question of compensation”, lawyer Igor Trunov said.

He said that according to Russian law the government coffers – the Moscow budget – take the financial responsibility of the case.

“But the Moscow government didn’t express condolence and didn’t show eagerness to pay for the burial of those murdered,” the lawyer said.

He explained that the relatives of the killed must receive 300,000 roubles (around $10,000) in compensation and 25,000 roubles for funeral services. The injured will settle for 100,000 roubles.
