A village in Russia’s south has successfully adopted a model of socialism and survives with no problems in the 21st century market economy surrounding them, and celebrate Labour Day with all the Soviet traditions.
I second the Bravo above. :)
I don't feel like a steak dinner tonight, may I have a new flat screen TV. And I'm getting tired of hanging around the farm, I would like a vacation, maybe a Royal Caribbean Cruise. I've been working hard, Oh. I forgot, I'm living with a bunch of socialists, they'll decide what best for me. How stupid of me, I just need to get back to work and be happy. " As long As you pretend to pay me, I pretend to work" Every morning, in every corner of the world the line wraps around the building of US embassies for visas to come to America. Long live Capitalism. Work hard, get paid, do what you want with the fruits of your labor. My Country is moving towards socialism, not because it's better, it's because there's a bunch of lazy people who don't want to work, why would they, they can just sit home watch TV and wait for the government check.
I grew up on a dairy in the 70's and 80's and we had experimented with this bach then. We found a 50-80% increase in dairy production when the cows were kept happy, given back rubs, had their ears itched, and were given soft music. We played classical music in the barns for one year. It was very profitable. I do find it hypxritical to call this a proof of socialism over capitalism when The very person in charge stated this is capitalism at work. He found a way to make all workers happy. And content, and as a result his farm is profiting. Capitalism without morality is void. This concept has often been missed, as many Americans have unfortunately tried to divorce morality from the rest of life. You cannot do this-it is psychotic to attempt. For this reason our farmer (who has mixed His morality of care for the community with profit for the farm) is finding success. And I wish him the best!!
This is the most insanely idiodic story I have ever heard.
People confuse capitalism as a spiritual philosophy. Capitalism is a means of production, distribution, and wealth creation. What people do with the wealth they create is up to them!! It is call FREEDOM! You might not like what someone else does with thier money. However, it is their money! If you dont like what you percieve as "American values", then dont subscribe to them! However, capitalism and free markets are a science! You cannot debate their efficiency, just as you cannot debate 1 + 1 = 2. Please do yourself, and the rest of humanity, a favor and open an economics book. Preferably one from the Austrian School of Economics.
Old Soviet dreams are hard to give up. I am 62 and left Russia in 1970 by jumping ship in Houston, Texas. This glorifies the Old Russia. In the old Russia one never made decisions for themselves, others were appointed to make life's decisions for the individual. I am sure the old communist who at 87 has kept this commune going has dedicated his life to keeping this going with, you guessed it, the profits from the farm. He is like an Abbot running a religious order or a commune where the individual hands over their freedom for a bowl of soup. This is an example for anyone who wants to live that life and a caution to anyone who wants FREEDOM. In the old Soviet system if you wanted freedom you got slavery. Its best not to go back there.
This is not socialism, but collectivism. In a free society, everyone is free to form a collective if they want to. The village collective definately has nothing to do with Soviet communism.By the way, in most western countries we have similar benefits: we go to work, we pay taxes, and in return we get schools, hospitals etc. But we are allowed to choose our own food (not just borshch and steaks). If people in that village are content, it is good. I guess those who are discontent have left. However, I agree Russia could improve some aspects of capitalism. Russians have a tradition for common spirit. It is good, with moderation. It works best in free people. You should never confuse the common spirit with the State.
We are proud of such examples. We love you Russia !!

That is a wonderfull story which prove how stupid we are to think like if we had a cash-register instead of a brain. Let us repeat that oasis of socialism, all over the World. Russia has all the faculties to become the example the West has failed to be. Humanity, desperatly needs such an example...Bravo ! Jean-Claude Meslin Tel: +33450240275
