Snow Leopard wins Olympic mascot race. So do Polar Bear and Hare

Snow Leopard, Polar Bear and Hare: this cute trio have become the official mascots of the 2014 Winter Olympics which will be held in the Russian city of Sochi. Also, Fire Boy and Snow Girl have become the mascots of 2014 Winter Para-Olympics.

RT: Reports coming through world news media of evictions of home-owners in Sochi to make way for an Olympics-related road. This kind of publicity could get nasty pretty quickly. What can be done to reduce such evictions? For people ready to believe that "Putin's Russia" is just another name for GULAG, such anti-human rights news stories will be another confirmation.

Great to hear Snow Leopard got the top job! Well, I think its a little bit because SL looks a bit like a cute cat – and so many Russians like cats! Hmmm..SL does look pretty fit too, and the eyes are very expressive. Excellent choice! Ok – great that there is the "underground" froggie Zoich to add some spice to the competition too!
Of course, being close to Vancouver Olympics, its ideal that Snow Leopard carries on the terrific mascot tradition like my favourite MukMuk ( )
