I would be pleased if US base would be pull out of Italy, but why instead of moving their facilities to Poland, the US don't move back home once for all?

U.S. really doesn't care about Russian reaction or of some "groups"in Poland. All this is about money -1billion $ of expenses which U.S. expects Poland to pay the bill. Specially with actual recession, depression in U.S. I think that is the MAIN problem.

This is actually good news for the polish military - larger machine park would make training pilots for F16`s easier. About those "groups" - polish goverment nor public opinion doesn`t care about them too. NATO is the only possibility for Poland in terms of military security - also Poland is one of very few countries in NATO that doesn`t have any US bases on its soil - so it is time to gain some.

Regarding DEFENSE my basic mentality is that :ONE SHOULD NOT BE OVERLY obsessed with defense matters. One should NOT mull over, or muse over military matters all the time !!There are many many more worthwhile topics and interesting feilds with which to occupy your mind!!An 'all-round' developed mind and chain of thought goes a long way in finding appropriate responses to crucial problems; and NOT a 'militarized' mind set. This is my experience!!.

I am familiar with the Italian area around the base in question and agree with the military assessment assigned to it. But I am totally against the USA getting involved in other areas outside our country. Eveyr foreign move we make that enhances the military in other countries merely sets the stage for future issues that may not be settled peace- fully. I do appreciate the angst regarding the Polish people. Their history has been beset with too many wars, remapping the borders, the attempts to rebuild a meaningful economy. The current desire on their part to have the Americans involved does not bode well because our own foreign policy, if you can call it that, has never been in decent shape since the end of the second Reagan administration.

Try to find out how many millions $ the polish decisions'makers hide in swiss or other fiscal paradises' banks? . Buying american F16 and loving so much the americans, what is Poland doing in the European-Union ? Nevertheless, polish are happy to find work in France, Germany, England etc. We should throw them out ! Naturally, knowing that the European-Union is an amalgam of royal-republics (France), mafioso-republics (Poland) and decadent royalties (Spain, England, Holland) with thousands of useless, leechee peoples, it does not make much difference. Sorry Future Generations. Sincerely !Jean-Claude Meslin

The US perception is that they have become quite unpopular in Western Europe (especially since the Iraq war) and that they are relatively more welcome in some former states of the Soviet Union. They have also been closing bases in Germany and moving them to Poland, Hungary, etc. Of course, the other major point benefit is cost. Money goes a lot further in Eastern Europe than in Western Europe and it is simply cheaper to move eastwards.

It has been talked about as if absolute truth, that Poland loves to militarized, and especially by US. It has been claimed that Poland wants nothing more then the assurances of great power, and once this great power, US, is firmly attached to its soil --- be that through Missile Defence or an Air Force base --- then all the Polan's problems would be solved. From what I know, the idea of militarized Poland, especially militarized directly to US, and not subject to any qualms that Europe may have, is not so hot in Poland. Obviously, there are plenty of special interest that would insure one, and only one, point of view to be heard. So be it. Poland has seen it share of grief in WWII, even though many other countries, such as Yugoslavia lost more population as a percentage of total, then Poland. But there is a problem with the introspection in Poland. There is a tendency to remember only convenient things, and "forget" others, and see itself as a victim. Vatican should shoulder some blame, at it seems to encourage Poland to "play the leadership" role in advancing various Vatican agendas. But when the dust settles, Vatican receedes in the background, and Poland is left exposed. In between the wars, Poland played a risky game. It flirted with Hitler, and poked the Soviets in the eye in their early days. As a result, it ended up between the war-ready Hitler, and relucant allies who were hoping that by signing a meaningless committment to Poland, Hitler was going to blink. Only USSR saw through this, and made sure to go forward and meet Hitler troops in Poland. Today, same high-octane games. Must be a rush! But remember that stepping in between giants is dangerous. O, Poland --- remembed everything and learned nothing.

America has always coveted the wealth of Russia and has ridiculed and mocked the Russians. Russia would be foolish to ignore the obvious that America has not given up its ultimate goal of dismembering Russia. The worst decision Russia can make is to assist American efforts to occupy Afghanistan. The next step to America's conquest of Afghanistan is to start destabilizing the muslim republics in the soft underbelly of Russia. American move of fighter jets to Poland is part of their long-term plan. However, I suspect the eventual future for Poland will be dismemberment between Belorus, Ukraine and Germany. History has a way of repeating itself. Russia should be hoping for American defeat in Afghanistan, rather than helping the American long-term plans for the downfall of Russia.

Military defence plays a vital role on any country's security and economic stability. Therefore it is important that the military defence of a country would have a more huge budget to overcome any eventualities.History has repeated several times. So Russia must ask them for their intention. I would not want to comment any further than this.

US president Obama is now politically and economically weak so, the US military is taking the power in the country. The democrats, the military and Pentagon in USA had the policy of surrounding and isolating Russia militarily with the help of NATO extension at Russian borders, and that's what they are carrying out now. Here in Finland that aggressiviness has been on political agenda of the Finnish conservative party already some years, and started when USA initiated NATO campaigning for Sweden and Finland. Poland is just one piece of the puzzle.

We are not trying to provoke the Russians . I had an oppotunity to speak to some recent retired Russian fighter pilots, they actually admire our planes and we in return admire theres its all mutual. Its apparent that you are being mislead in some way, and I feel very sorry for you !

well boys it is just like IRAQ, Russia is the next Iraq what would you do now. hope Iraq is a lesson to you as never trust the west this is domination of Russia china and Iran at all cost. the plan goes as follows , Afghanistan, Iran, china and Russia, this will give Washington world dominance and propaganda is the other weapon that the west has. how would you save yourselves. do the same elsewhere. plant missiles in south America in Bolivia in Cuba, in Venezuela in Costa Rica, in china, everywhere and perhaps the fact that there will be so many weapons around or we kill each others or we have peace. however the aim of Washington is bowed to its voice obedience of all nations. you can avoid all this by a dollar collapse, china can help if they dare and understand that they are target even before you.

To think that Russia is incapable of seeing any outcome is just foolish western corporate thinking. You must remember that the one with most to lose is Russia (as usa parks on Russia's doorstep). Invaders (usa or anyone) are never justified for the wrong reasons when facing defenders (Russia), especially when those invaders have nothing to defend justly. It really is a idealogical war which the west can never win, which we have seen time and again.

. .it's 'lovely' to do a burger+fries with Barak but, sadly, vested interests won't seriously allow for very much more...it's a one way street.just try putting this new found U.S./Russian 'Love' to the test,(maybe a hot drink with Hillary at Starbucks) or, a Naval Facility in Newfoundland and an Airbase on the Mexican border. of course not,but why not? ... you've every right to feel threatened, and so have the Iranians, for that matter... worth a mention over pizza at an American Base in Kalingrad :)
