A remarkable escape

An American race driver saw his car's engine explode as he sped towards the finishing line. The driver was Tony Pedregon who amazingly survived with just a few burns to his right hand.
This is from the NHRA Winter nationals.
Suddenly it goes from speeding car to fireball. It happened as the car neared the finishing line.
Pedregon probably deserved to win after that, but he'll probably settle for just being alive.
