Rumour mill in overdrive before US election

As the US presidential election approaches, voters seem to be less interested in candidates' promises – and more concerned by rumours surrounding them. The huge volume of gossip has forced candidates to keep busy rebuffing them.

As the presidential candidates Obama and McCain take their contest to the key battleground state of Pennsylvania, political watchers have noticed a growing interest in election souvenirs such as dog chew toys, cups, costumes and masks.

There are more creative ways to support the candidate of you choice than T-shirts and car stickers.

Some pet shops have senators Obama and McCain are for sale – as dog chew toys. At any Pet Central store in New York you can unleash your political views or simply throw your least favourite candidate to the dogs.

While this is all about fun some retailers are taking it one step further.

The ancient art of coffee reading has found its way to Manhattan, and most other 7-11 branches nationwide. In the run up to E-Day, they're asking you which presidential candidate is your cup of tea or coffee. Reds go for the Republican and Blues for the Democrat.

Not only will they serve up your political choice, the cups are counted to predict the outcome of the poll. Every cup counts and will continue to do so right up to November 4.

But if you really want to unmask the election a costume store is the place to go. Political masks are hot this Halloween. Hottest of them all, not surprisingly, is Governor Palin – RT couldn’t find her in any of the stores.

Despite their love of a good show, the American people are getting worn out by the campaigning and the rallying, but there’ll be no let-up in the next week as the show is set to reach fever pitch.
