Art fair lures top foreign dealers

The fifth Moscow World Fine Art Fair is on at the Moscow Manege exhibition centre, next to the Kremlin and Red Square. Described as the most exclusive fair in Eastern Europe, it features about eighty top international dealers specialising in jewellery, fi

Collectors, gallery owners and admirers have until June 2 to admire the treasures on display.

Among the highlights are celebrated paintings by Picasso and Chagall, as well as other desirable pieces of modern art set alongside a number of rare antiques.

For art dealers and collectors the fair is also an opportunity to boost Russia’s reputation as a destination for international art, explains Patrick Urkad, the fair’s founder.

“Since the first Moscow Art Fair we’ve been trying hard to knock down the stereotypes about Russia. And we’ve had some success. Today Russia is recognised as a venue for the most prestigious art events,” he said.
  
The exhibition also gives visitors the opportunity to purchase some of the masterpieces brought together in one place. With Russia's economy enjoying a boom, many of the buyers are homegrown.
