Assorti exhibition opens in Moscow

The Axis photographers' group has organised an exhibition called Assorti in Moscow's A-Three gallery to give photographers a chance to put their pictures on show.
Traditionally, exhibitions are united by a general topic or theme, but for Assorti this is not the case. Named after the French word meaning assorted, the exhibition features the works of eight photographers, each showing his own style. One of the participants is Vladimir Povar, who also organised the event. Used to working with video, he later turned to photography and sees it as a return to his roots. For him photography is an integral part of life. Most of the participants share Vladimir's viewpoint on this art – whether they've been shooting pictures since their childhood or just started recently. Some works don't look like photographs at all – printed on metal or canvas by Maria Pleshkova. She is the only woman participating in this exhibition and has an inimitable style. Her works show a feminine view and technique – and lie between painting and photography.
