One woman has been killed and three people were injured after a bear went on the rampage in East Siberia. It happened in a quiet village in the Krasnoyarsk region on Thursday.
“A bear came out of the forest and attacked three locals near a house,” said a police spokesman. “One woman, being in a serious condition, died in hospital. A little later the bear attacked a pensioner, the man was taken to hospital.”
The bear was tracked and shot dead by police in one of the village streets.
A number of precautionary measures are now being put in place in the area to try to prevent further incidents. The measures include training locals on how to avoid attacks, and additional police patrols near settlements.
The incident is the second in the region in recent times. Earlier this month a man was injured by a bear after he tried to stop the animal stealing food from a campsite.
