Muslims sacked for praying at work

The 9/11 tragedy continues to affect ordinary Muslim Americans. In the seven years since the tragic events they have been facing constant discrimination.

In the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, there was a spike in violence and discrimination against Muslims, Arabs and people of South Asian origin in the city. Since then, around a quarter of the Muslims in the U.S. have said they have experienced discrimination.

Hussein Rashid, an American-Muslim, who teaches an introductory class on Islam, says the 9/11 attacks acted as a catalyst for anti-Muslim sentiment, adding,

"The discrimination is still there. Its hurting Muslim Americans. It’s hurting Muslims in America. It’s also hurting America. We're getting people who are going back to their homeland.

Sorry about the hurt feelings. We're getting killed. It's past time for moderate Muslims to wage a campaign against extremists. If we see you demonstrating in the streets against these radicals and cleaning the killers out of your mosques, it will go a long way toward easing our paranoia.
