The US election marks the beginning of the end for the Presidency of George W. Bush. Some of the events over the last eight years have made him one of the least popular leaders in the country's history.

This is perhaps the most historic US election ever. We could see the first black US president, the first female vice-president, or even the oldest president.

But most importantly for many, it's the first step away from eight years of President George W. Bush, who has been dubbed one of the most unpopular US presidents in history.

“It’s very hard to ignore when people are losing their houses and the economic situation is the worst since the great depression,” says Katrina Vanden Heuvel of The Nation magazine. 

The economy has become the main focus of this election, but since 2001 we’ve seen 9 /11, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and hurricane Katrina – events that have shaped the state of the nation and the presidency of the next man to step into the White House.

Given all this, many people feel they have no choice but to vote, and in what's expected to be record numbers.

Some even went off the scale, which is exactly what the voter turn out could be in an election where many people are voting to pick up the pieces left behind after the last 8 years.
