A competition to find the fastest rat in town has been held in Russia’s northern capital, St Petersburg.

The competitors were weighed and thoroughly examined before the starting gun was fired.
While some of the furry racers made valiant attempts to negotiate the obstacle course, many of the more sophisticated ones preferred to take it easy – enjoying nibbles and a little rest along the way.
