Russian Fashion Week – the biggest fashion event in Eastern Europe - is reaching its peak.

While the most exciting shows are due to take place on Saturday, Friday was marked by a collection by Russian and Ukrainian designers called “Cossacks in the City”.

Designers presented to fashionistas their glamorous fantasies on ‘Taras Bulba’ – a historical novel by a famous Russian writer Nikolay Gogol, whose 200th anniversary was celebrated on April 1.

And the audience at the Congress Hall of Moscow’s Trade Center seemed to really like the collection.

In total, over 100 events – catwalks, exhibitions, business fashion seminars, charity galas – have taken place during Russian Fashion Week.

The past four seasons have established RFW as a regular entry in the world fashion calendar. It is held twice a year – in April and October. This year, however, the number of designers has declined because of the credit crunch and only 50 designers presented their collections. Previous seasons saw up to 70 fashion designers showing their creations in Moscow.
