CSKA Moscow have returned to winning ways in the Russian football Premier League, after a 3-1 win over Saturn, while Spartak Moscow failed to go two points clear at the top.
CSKA were in need of a win to keep the pressure on the leading pack, after losing to top of the table FC Moscow last time out. And the Muscovites went in front after 21 minutes. It was a scrappy goal, with Vasily Berezutsky reacting quickest in the area, to fire the ball past Kinsky. And CSKA doubled their lead just two minutes later. It again came from a set piece as the Saturn defense failed to clear Ramon's corner, and the ball broke to Zhirkov on the edge of the area, who hit a fine drive, leaving Kinsky with little chance. However, Saturn got themselves back in the match on the half hour mark, as Igor Lebedenko showed good close control before beating Igor Akinfeev. The visitors had chances to level things up, but didn't take them, and CSKA sealed the match with 8 minutes to go, as Wagner Love finished, following good work from Krasic and Zhirkov. In the rest of the games Krylya Sovetov beat Amkar, 1-0. The match between Rubin and Rostov ended goalless. Meanwhile, Spartak Moscow missed the chance to go two points clear at the top, as they were held in Krasnodar. So now it is all very tight in Russian football Premier League. Spartak Moscow and FC Moscow both on top of the table with fifteen points each. But CSKA and Zenit are just a point adrift of the first two.
