Human rights watchdogs say Doomsday cultists who took their children to the underground shelter in Russia's Penza region, have violated their rights. Thirty five sect members, including four kids, holed up in a bunker in mid-November last year saying they

Most of the cult members emerged at the beginning of April, and since then there has been speculation what the life in the bunker was like.

Eight-year-old Yulia and her sister Olga told Russia Today of their experiences.

“There was a lack of fresh air in the cave, of course. We missed the sunshine, birds singing, nature in general. Food and other things were the same as outside, but freedom of movement was much more limited,” Olga told Russia Today.

Her sister Yulia said, “We didn't run around or play, but helped the adults, talked a lot and read the Lives of the Saints”.

A spokesperson for UNICEF says their basic human rights have been abused.

“Under Russia’s Constitution, the parents not only have a right to bring up children, but also are responsible for their education, health, providing them with everything they need, and must not violate their rights. This was the violation of the Constitution,” said Elena Zotova, UNICEF Russia social policy officer.

Meanwhile, the cultists still believe the end of the world is on its way and Olga is not an exception.

“It hasn't affected my faith. It will remain unshakable to the end. I will follow only the directions that were given to us by our leader Pyotr,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Doomsday cult members who remain in the bunker have broken their vow of silence.

They have contacted the local authorities and asked for water.
