“Nothing ended, nothing ever ends,” claims philosophic Greek director Theo Angelopoulus who presented his drama “The Dust of Time” at the Moscow Film Festival.

The film revolves around the lives of Spyros and Eleni who were separated from each other during the Second World War. He emigrated to America, she found herself exiled to the Soviet Union.

French actress Irene Jacob says the character of Eleni was an inspiration for her.

“She is a person who loves strongly. She’s separated from so many things: her love, her son, her political ideals, she’s separated from everything. But she’s not going to quit, she stands for what she loves, it’s so rare. I met people like this who have been through so many challenges and who kept their faith in life.”

The star of 'Three Colors: Red', Jacob has become a regular in Moscow and has worked with Russian filmmakers too.

“I’ve done a lot of films with very different directors from every part of the world – Polish, Spanish, American, English, Italian, Greek… Basically, when a film is really good nationality doesn’t matter.”

Jacob says every actress wants to play Chekhov and work with great directors – “Sometimes you have the chance.”
