Experimental music at hand

Each year Moscow turns into a mecca for innovative musicians from all over the world at Russia's largest avant-garde music get-together, known as the “Long Hands” festival.
It will be a rare chance to hear unconventional music that's not played on the radio and meet people who are on the same wavelength as you.
The styles range from pure avant-garde to free-motion jazz and a fusion of experimental and improvised music. And it seems that experimental music is in safe hands at the festival in Moscow.
However, music is not the be-all and end-all at the “Long Hands” extravaganza, which also puts a spotlight on cinema. “Future Shorts Live” is a new cultural phenomenon for Moscow, during which live music concerts go hand-in-hand with screenings of films from the world-renown, Oscar-winning “Future Shorts” series.
The eight-day festival kicks off on October 2 at the “Dom” Culture Center, with the cover charge of $15.
