Faldo Series gets Russian golfers in the swing

The Faldo Series has teed off in Russia for the first time. The event takes place throughout the world and is designed to identify and nurture the next generation of champions.
The project is the brainchild of British golfing legend Nick Faldo. After he won his third masters in 1996, journalists asked him where the next Nick Faldo would come from. Unable to answer, Nick responded typically with actions rather than words: he set up The Faldo Series, for golfers aged from 12 to 21.
Now in its 12th season, events are held in Europe and Asia. The geography of the event continues to expand and the series has finally made its debut in Russia.
Forty-eight golfers competed in six age-groups. The winners have an opportunity to qualify for the Grand Final in Brazil.
The future hopefuls of Russian golf played 54 holes over three days at Moscow's Le Meridien Country Club, where the next stage of the PGA European tour will be held on the July 24.
Russian Polina Vorobyeva putted her way to the title and a trip to Brazil in the under 18 category.
Another promising Russian is Mikhail Morozov. Still only 16, he managed to finish ahead of everyone with a score of two under par. Although he currently studies in Hungary, he's glad he got this experience in Russia while on holiday from school.
Young people got a chance to not only show off their skills. Faldo's own coach Keith wood conducted player development seminars for the all participants.
