Heartthrob pop singer Alexander Rybak says Norway is tired of his ‘Fairy Tale’.
“Eurovision is opening up new horizons for my ‘Fairy Tale,' and I’m happy that people in other countries will get to know about it. But I have got other songs too…”
On May 13, the Norwegian singer of Belarusian origin will turn 23 years old. He left for Norway when he was only four.
The musician joked that he failed to pass the national selection for the Eurovision contest in Belarus, so quickly moved to Norway. Rybak says he ‘tries to speak Russian’ but asked Russian journalists to talk to him as though he’s an 8 year-old kid.
Alexander has played violin and piano since he was a little boy, and has performed with one of the world’s top violinists, Pinchas Zukerman. As with many of his other songs, he wrote ‘Fairy Tale’ himself.
“The idea came to me when I was walking around the Norwegian country-side last summer. I was on vacation. So I was knocking on people’s doors, asking if they could let me in, if I play a concert for them,” explained the singer ironically during his press conference in Moscow.
“Tired of walking, I suddenly decided to take a break. I took my violin and started playing a tune. And I thought, that was cool. I couldn’t remember which melody it was until I suddenly realized – It’s mine!”
Rybak says it wasn’t his purpose to write a song for Eurovision, but when he started working on it, he thought it was perfect for the contest.
According to fans, music critics, and bookmakers, he’s currently the favorite to win 54th Eurovision contest in Moscow.
