A team of sculptors in Moscow have made their own contribution to the Easter celebrations and produced a giant egg made out of ice in one of the city's parks.

The sculpture is more than two meters high and weighs half a ton. The oversized egg is in keeping with the tradition of Carl Fabergé, who made the famous ornate Easter eggs for Russian Tsar Alexander III.

The artists say they're hoping to have their egg classified as an official world record, and considering that the weather is still relatively cold, the artists don’t need to worry about their creation melting anytime soon.

The tradition of gifting paschal eggs is widespread around the world. In Russia people also paint eggs, and on Sunday – as a light-hearted way of celebrating – fight them like conkers. Whoever owns the egg that doesn’t break when tapped by their opponent’s is the winner.

Meanwhile, in the southern city of Krasnodar, a team of chefs have baked a huge cake.

The bakers say they hope their gigantic ‘Kulich’ – a traditional Russian Easter cake – will get them into the record books.

The largest Kulich in the world weighed in at over 650 kilos and at a height of 1.5 meters.

After the cake was presented to the public in the city centre, where Easter celebrations are in full swing, everyone could come and take a bite.
