Former president of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev has released a CD album entitled ‘Songs for Raisa’, dedicated to his spouse who died from acute leukemia in 1999.

The 78-year-old politician has recorded the album with the leader of one of Russia’s most beloved rock bands ‘Mashina Vremeni’ (Time Machine), Andrey Makarevich.

The last Soviet President told Interfax news agency he’s recorded his wife’s seven favourite songs. ‘There will be no bulk selling of the album. We’ve put it on our charity auction in London,’ Gorbachev said.

In 2006, a Raisa Gorbachev Foundation has been established to help find a cure for cancer in children.
