Published: 19 January, 2007, 21:30

Christie's Auction House in London has announced about a sale of priceless items from the private collection of the Greek Royal Family, which had close connections to the Russian Crown.

The auction will take place on the 24th and the 25th of January.

A private collection which belonged to King George I of the Hellenes and his wife Russian Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna will be put up for sale at world famous auction house.

The King George I of the Hellenes was related to many crown heads of Europe and the auction, which features pieces inherited or given as gifts from relatives across Europe, clearly illustrates his Royal dynastic connections.

"There is a huge range of objects, English silver, Russian silver’, Harry Williams-Bulkeley, the Head of the Silver Department at Christie's, says.

Given the King's Russian connections, the sale also features around 100 Faberge works of art.  The marvelous pieces were purchased by Royalty, members of the crown family, not only in Russia but also throughout Europe as an attribute to wealth and power.

The collection comprises of over 850 lots.

One of the highlights of the sale is a pair of silver pilgrim flasks, estimated up to $US 250,000.

Christie's has already generated considerable international interest and it is expected that bidding for the lots will be fierce.
