HIV man kills mistress for infecting him

A court in the Urals has begun hearing the case of a man who has admitted killing a former lover after he found she had infected him with HIV. The case came to light when the man’s pregnant wife had blood tests.

Last year 45-year-old Vitaly Yurchenkov from Russia’s republic of Bashkortostan played around with 30-year-old Yelena Bychkova.  He couldn’t believe the consequences of his short affair.

His adultery was revealed when Vitaly’s wife discovered she was HIV positive after having blood tests as part of routine ante-natal care. The woman had an abortion and broke off relations with her unfaithful husband.

When Vitaly realised that because of his affair his own life and the lives of his loved ones were at stake, he decided to take a revenge on his ex-mistress. By then he'd already found out that Yelena knew about her disease, but hadn’t warned him about the danger.

The man took the young woman to the countryside and shot her in the temple. To make sure the victim was dead he also stabbed her twice in the back of the head.

Her body was found several days later, and shortly after that the suspect was detained.

Vitaly, who’s already confessed to the murder, faces from six to ten years in prison.

But according to investigators it wouldn’t be his first time behind bars – the man has already spent 24 years in jail for different crimes.
