It's a McMiracle! Flabby American loses the lard by eating fast-food

Published: 20 June, 2008, 13:50

A roly-poly American man claims to have shed 80 pounds in just six months – despite eating exclusively at McDonald’s.

Chris Coleson, from Virginia, says his diet proves you can lose the lard even if you love fast-food.

He tipped the scales at a hefty 278 pounds when he decided to fight the flab, making a bold prediction to his wife that he could drop to 185 pounds. That was his weight before their marriage in 1998.

Eating mostly salads, wraps and fruit – and an occasional cheeseburger without the bun – he dropped to 199 pounds but says he is determined to reach his 185-pound goal.

Chris says keeping the diet was tough. Sometimes he only drank black coffee when his friends or colleagues ate dinner.

One of the reasons he chose McDonald’s was that its locations were convenient for his busy schedule.

The man became a local celebrity in New Kent after a newspaper profiled him this year.

Chris says he was a stress-eater, sometimes consuming enough for a family meal in one evening. But his expanding waistline meant he found it difficult to even tie his shoes.

The decision to change his life was inspired by a story he heard of a blind man who rode cross-country on a tandem bicycle.
