Jean-Claude Van Damme will fight fire with fire in the battle against Chechen terrorist Basayev in the new action drama ‘Universal Soldiers: the Next Generation.'

Directed by John Hyams, the film revolves around die-hard soldiers Luc Deveraux and Andrew Scott, played by Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren.

They find themselves on opposite sides, as both join the battle against the Chechen militant Basayev who takes control of the Chernobyl power station, and threatens to unleash a poisonous radioactive cloud unless his demands are met.

It’s not clear whether the character of Basayev has anything to do with one of Russia’s once most-wanted men, Shamil Basayev, who claimed responsibility for the 2004 Beslan school attack, which claimed the lives of more than 330 people.

Shooting of the big-budget sci-fi sequel is currently taking place in Bulgaria.

Both Lundgren and Van Damme starred in the original 1992 drama ‘Universal Soldier’ from German director Roland Emmerich. Jean-Claude Van Damme, nicknamed 'muscles from Brussels,' also portrayed Luc Deveraux in the 1999 'Universal Soldier: the Return' by Mic Rodgers.
