Dancers from 21 countries have stocked up on pairs of ballet shoes in preparation for the international ballet contest in the Russian capital.
22 ballet dancers and 24 choreographers are taking part in one of the most important events on the art calendar at the Bolshoi Theatre.
The challenge is to gain international recognition, as well as the festival’s top honors – $15,000 and a gold medal.
The winner will be decided by a professional jury headed by legendary Russian choreographer Yury Grigorovich, who will announce the laureates following three rounds of the contest on June 19.
This year the competition, whose history spans four decades, is dedicated to the renowned Russian ballerina Marina Semenova, who is celebrating her 101st birthday.
