Ethnic Russians who fled Georgia for Abkhazia last week have revealed that they had to leave to escape the growing tensions with local people which they say became unbearable. Many of them left everything they owned behind. But some of them not only found

After the Abkhazian-Georgian war of 1992-93, ethnic Russians say the situation had been worsening every year. Larisa Vorobyova was not offered an official job, so she started washing dishes during the day and cleaning the streets at night.

When the recent conflict started Larisa found her life unbearable.

“In the last days it was impossible to talk to people, they were rude,” she said.

Larisa’s daughter managed to move back to Russia in 1994.

And after watching by chance Russia’s President Medvedev speaking on satellite TV, Larisa decided to escape.
