Serving two masters for half a century

The harlequin, Ferruccio Soleri, has been appearing on the stage of Moscow’s Maly Theatre. For almost half a century he has been putting on his black mask and colourful outfit, but says he never tires of the role he has played more than 2,000 times.

Around 70 singers took part in the Operetta Land contest in Moscow, performing Strauss, Calman, Legar and Dunaevsky.

And although the jury was quite happy with the level of the participants, they say Russian singers need to go back to the roots of operetta and should perform in its native language, French.
