Just a day after the world’s most prestigious film festival, Cannes, named its winners on the French Riviera, another film fair is taking off in central Russia.

Its headquarters are in the Ivanovo Region, some 300 kilometers northeast of Moscow. Named after Andrey Tarkovsky’s cinematic masterpiece ‘The Mirror’, the international festival features participants from 18 countries, screening up to 120 movies, some of which will be shown in Russia for the first time ever.

Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi is among the honored guests of The Mirror along with prominent Russian filmmakers.

It’s no coincidence that the festival is held in Ivanovo. One of Russia’s most celebrated directors, Tarkovsky spent his childhood in the small town of Yuryevets in the Ivanovo Region. A selection of films by the director, who died more than 20 years ago, will also be screened at the festival.
