Marathon des Sables continues in Morocco

Stage 3 of the 22nd ‘Marathon des Sables’ took place in Southern Morocco. In the men's race, Mohamad Ahansal (Morocco) held 1 minute and 2 second lead over his brother Lahcen after narrowly winning stage 2 at Jebel el Oftal.
Spain's Jorge Aubeso had been in the lead after chackpoint 2 but Lahcen Ahansal gradually broke away before crossing the line in a time of just under 2 hours and 26 minutes.Already a nine-time winner, the Moroccan was perhaps spurred on by the birth of his son the previous day.On the women's side, Laurence Fricotteaux of France broke away from Didi Touda at around 27.5 kilometres before recording her third successive stage win.
