Anna Netrebko, one of the world’s best sopranos, will be opening the new season at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. She will be performing the main part on “Iolanta”, opera by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
A joint production with the Festspielhaus Baden Baden theater, Tchaikovsky’s "Iolanta" will be the first performance of the new season. The production was staged by Polish opera, theatrical and film director Mariusz Trelinski. Maestro Valery Gergiev will conduct the orchestra.
Iolanta’s part is one of the best performances of one of the world’s best sopranos Anna Netrebko. She has presented it numerous times on different world stages and received highest appreciation of the critics and the audiences.
This season’s performance is to become the second appearance by Netrebko on the stage of the Maryinsky Theater, after a long break connected with her pregnancy. After giving birth, she first stepped back on the stage in January 2009. Back then she performed the leading part in Gaetano Donizetti 's opera "Lucia de Lammermoor".
“Iolanta” at the Mariinsky will also be the last star’s performance given in Russia during this year due to many reasons, including her small child and touring schedule.
Prior to her latest performance on September 7 on the Cathedral Square in the Kremlin, Netrebko promised to arrive in Russia with a solo program consisting of old Russian romances. However this concert has not yet appeared on her touring schedule.
Anna Netrebko is one of the leading soprano opera singers in the world. Having debuted in the Mariinsky Theater in 1994, she quickly got to the top and achieved popularity worldwide. Since 1999, she has been spotted many times on the world’s main stages, such as the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, opera theatre of San Francisco and many others.
“Iolanta” will be playing at the Mariinsky Theatre in St.Petersburg starting from September 28.

I think that the sentence "She has presented it numerous times on different world stages" does not fits very well the reality. Anna Netrebko has been singing the title role of Iolanta only 4 times, al of them during the last summer in Baden-Baden conducted by Valery Gergiev.
