Along with such names as Tricky and Portishead, this trip-hop duo is thought to be the trailblazers of this musical genre. Massive Attack will visit Moscow with a major gig at Luzhniki Stadium on October 14.
The British city of Bristol is known for its urban culture surrounding trip hop, drum and bass, and graffiti art – which has existed there from the early 1990s – and raising internationally known stars in these fields.
Originating in the late 1980s in Bristol, Massive Attack still create pretty dark and pessimistic-sounding tunes mixed with hip-hop flow and electronic sounds, constantly looking for new original ideas for their music.
Robert Del Naja known also as 3D, composes most of the band’s music. He sings and whispers and, in general, is the central figure of the band. Grant Marshall, also known as Daddy G, is the second oldest participant of the group, but his functions are basically being the MC. The Bristol collective have collaborated with Tricky, Madonna, David Bowie, Mos Def and Sinead O'Connor amongst many others.
During their more-than-20 years on stage the band has recorded four studio albums: "Blue Lines" (1991), "Protection" (1994), "Mezzanine" (1998) and "100th Window" (2003). In 2004, Massive Attack recorded the soundtrack to the film "Danny the Dog". Now Massive Attack’s leader 3D is working on the band’s fifth album which is expected to be released at the end of 2009 or the beginning of 2010.
The Moscow concert forms part of the European tour, which started on October 6 in Dublin and will end on November 24 in the Swiss city of Winterthur.

What I like about you: what keeps foreigners in Russia? The Motherland may be suffering from runaway inflation, alcoholism, strangling red tape and a host of other afflictions, but this hasn’t stopped foreigners from queuing up for their Russian visas. |
Turn out your pockets for soul queen’s showErykah Badu: known for her beauty, crazy hairstyles, eccentric looks and charming vocals, star of rhythm-and-blues, jazz, soul and hip-hop. One of the most remarkable figures of the neo-soul scene returns to Moscow. |
