Masters Cup: Russia’s top player loses in opening match

Russia’s Nikolay Davydenko has lost his opening game at the Shanghai Masters Cup, going down 3-6, 6-4, 2-6 to Andy Roddick.
Davydenko managed to take the game to the deciding third set. He'd been a break down in the second, but recovered to win in 6-4.
But Roddick rallied take the decider 6-2.
No doubts about the biggest sensation of the first round though – Fernando Gonzalez’s 3-6 7-6 7-5 win over Roger Federer.
The world number one had never lost in the event before, but he's not out of the cup as it'is a round-robin competition. He and all the other players have two more games to play.
