Modern artists from Prague have opened a series of displays in Moscow with an exhibition at the hall of the Fabrika Project. Video art and photography are the main focus of the exhibition.
A brand new film genre called “friendly cinema” was presented to the Moscow public by the Czech artist Michal Pehoucek. The artist has already become a cult figure in Czech artistic circles, stunning the audience with his unusual approach to painting, photography and even cooking.“I started the Friendly Cinema project half a year ago. We are not members of any professional cinema unions. Our films are low-budget,” explains Michal Pehoucek. The script-writers and directors working with Pehoucek are cinema students. Among their projects are an animated feature, based on Hitchcock's movies and an anti-utopian film. Pehoucek himself is fond of horror movies with growing suspense in seemingly usual situations. For her part, the photographer Marketa Otgova gets inspiration from European landscapes. Her Ghosts series featuring fields and forests are tinted with mysticism.During the week, the Czech artists will present more projects at Moscow's Manege and Modern Art Centre.
