Trams and buses have been ferrying people around the Russian capital for decades. An exhibition has opened in Moscow to relive a by-gone age of public transport, with vintage vehicles – rebuilt using state of the art technology.
Moscow’s famous Central Exhibition Centre has recently featured an exotic bus collection. It is not the first exhibition of this kind, but this one features some quite exotic pieces, the organizers say.
“We now have a new ZIS-8, a bus which was featured in a famous detective movie; it was made of wood before the war. We bumped into the bus sketches by accident. Our engineers struggled to redesign it to match the good old ZIS,” says Evgeny Adamov, the Deputy Head of the Moscow Transport Agency.
For Muscovites, antique transport is only a part of history, bringing up memories of the good old times.
“I used to go to the countryside with my grandfather on these ancient buses. It was a thrilling experience. We were standing in the dark, waiting for the faint light to appear on the horizon. We were so happy to get in and be off,” recalls Nina Kozyreva, a visitor.
