Muscovites relax to Lounge Fest music at famous estate

The historical Arkhangelskoe estate, on the outskirts of Moscow, frequently becomes the venue for open-air festivals. This weekend it hosted the Lounge Fest – the second annual festival of lounge, light and modern jazz music.

With daily temperature around 25 degrees in Moscow it may seem almost a crime to organise an indoor concert.

That must be what the Lounge Festival organisers had in mind last year, inviting the world's best-known lounge musicians to one of the most beautiful estates near Moscow.

While artists such as De-Phazz or Gabin may be the most well known to the layman audience, the focus of this year's festival are the artists most highly regarded by the style's lovers.

The community decided that Pat Appleton, vocalist of the German ensemble De-Phazz, is the most interesting. So here she is in Moscow.

“I think today was a perfect day for me – everything worked out. The sound, the stage, the people. I'm really excited – I love it!” Pat Appleton noted.

Badminton and frisbee, fried meat and watermelon – there's always something to entertain oneself if the current performance doesn't fit one's taste.

But it doesn't really seem to happen. With five foreign bands and three Russian, there's nothing which stops the audience from slow passionate dancing. Sometimes even with their pets.

With a single ticket priced at around $ US 50, which is quite high for its kind, the NuNote Lounge Fest doesn't pretend to be a mass event.

Organisers say they would like to help Muscovites develop their taste for music and introduce lounge not as cafe background music, but as a fashionable one with a touch of avant-garde.

While for now it is difficult to say whether they will succeed, most of the visitors say they'd be happy to come back next year.
