New gear makes deep diving safer

Unique Russian equipment designed for underwater rescuers has successfully passed initial testing. It was tried out in the cold waters of the Barents Sea to prove effectiveness in the harshest conditions.
The temperature of the water was close to zero. The depth – around 60 metres – can be reached due to a special reserve oxygen cylinder, installed on the new equipment.
“Previously there were two types of diving equipment. The first one was for shallow diving, and the other one – with a ventilation system – deep work. But now we can do both types of operation using only this equipment,” explained Aleksey Mychko, a diver.
Divers say that they feel more protected in the new outfit. It has a lot of advantages over foreign alternatives. It is lighter, which increases mobility at great depths. It can be used in all latitudes – from the Arctic Ocean to the Equator. And it is half the price.
Foreign diving companies have already shown interest. But the makers say so far there are no plans to share the know-how with other countries.
