New Yorkers snap up tickets for Russian film festival

Tickets for this year's Russia Film Week sold out a forthnight before it opens in New York. The festival is being held for the eighth time, and has become a popular fixture on the U.S. cinema calendar.

The week opens with the latest movie by Russian A-list director Andrey Konchalovsky, called “Gloss”.

The film tells the story of a girl Galya from a remote Russian coal-mining town, who dreams of the glossy life of a supermodel.

Rejected by the Editor-In-Chief of a glamour magazine, Galya becomes a seamstress, then assistant to the head of an exclusive matchmaking agency. She end up becoming an elite bride herself.

Among the other films being showcased are: “Vise“ by Valery Todorovsky, ”Russian Games“ by Pavel Chukhray” and ”Artistry" by Stanislav Govorukhin.
