The NHL's highest-earning player Alexander Ovechkin scored twice to lift the Washington Capitals to a win over the Atlanta Thrashers and in doing so became the first 60-goal-a-season man in 12 years.
Aleksandr the Gr8 is no doubt enjoying his best form. The 22-year old opened the scoring in the first period to get his 59th of the season.
Then, in the third, Ovechkin was first to the rebound to start the Capitals' comeback into the match and net his 60th.
The last men to pass the 60-goal mark were Pittsburgh team-mates Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr, who both passed the mark 12 years ago.
Ovechkin's previous best was 52 goals in his rookie season of 2005-06.
He also added two assists in this one, as Washington claimed a 5-3 win.
