For the first time in its 79 year existence, the Central Academic Theatre of the Russian Army will give a night concert for veterans on June 21, in honor of anniversary of the start of World War II.

The concert will be a part of the commemoration of the 68th anniversary of Russia’s involvement in the war. It will be marked on June 22 all over the country, to show that people still feel the pain and remember the horrors of last century’s darkest times.

The charitable concert will begin at midnight in the grand hall of the theatre, which is capable of hosting 1,500 spectators. Russia’s honored singers and actors will perform songs and read memoirs of the military years.

“The theatre has lived according to some military-theatrical order for 79 years. Each evening, performances and actions have begun no later than 19:00, but this tragic date in the State’s history is a special case. Therefore, we have decided to give a night concert, which will become the first in the history of our theatre,” head of the Central Academic Theatre of the Russian Army, Major General Viktor Yakimov told RIA Novosti.

The Theatre of the Russian Army was the first professional drama theatre in the system of the Defense Ministry. It was established in 1929, and until 1946, was known as the Theatre of the Red Army. It was then renamed to the Theatre of the Soviet Army (later – Central Academic Theatre of the Soviet Army). Since 1991, it has officially been called the Central Academic Theatre of the Russian Army.
