“McCain, I like him, I don’t think America will tolerate a black president,” believes a middle-aged man in central Moscow.

“None of them are real, they have others who decide the politics anyway,” says a young man in his twenties.

Perhaps he thinks the candidates seem a little wooden, but this is quite literally the case in Moscow’s souvenir stalls.

Obama and McCain matryoshka dolls are proving very popular among souvenir buyers in Moscow. The U.S. presidential candidates are newcomers in souvenir stalls. Both of them are going quickly, but Obama is the leader in sales. However, in a little over two weeks, one of the two sets will be worth about as much as shares in Lehman Brothers.

Although some say Russians do not care about what is going on in America, others admit that the U.S. has a political and economic impact on the rest of the world so their lives are partially dependent on who’s in charge of the U.S.

Thus far, most Russian leaders have been cautious about who they’d prefer to see in the White House, but just maybe the contents of their shopping bags might offer some clues.
