Obama win makes newspapers historic – and expensive

Just two days after the outcome of the U.S. presidential election, issues of American newspapers detailing Barack Obama’s victory have become bibliographical rarities. They are now being sold on eBay for record prices.
The now historical morning papers of November 5 were sold out in a couple of hours after the news stalls opened, so not all the U.S. citizens were able to buy them.
On Wednesday about 800 internet-users put the historic issues of top U.S. dailies on eBay and other online auctions.
The price of a New York Times issue with the simple headline “Obama” has reached $US 400, while the Washington Post edition of the day costs $US 41.
In Obama’s home city of Chicago, local newspapers Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times are offered for $US 50.
But the record starting price was recorded in Charlotte, North Carolina. The owner of a November 5 issue of the Charlotte Observer has started the bidding at $US 2,000 for his treasure which, given the historic outcome, there is every possibility that he’ll get his money.
