Christmas and New Year fairy tales are frequently put on stage across Russia. One of them, the opera «12 Months» has just been staged at one of Moscow's theatres.
The opera is based on a famous Russian fairy tale with the same title.Russian children know the story well. A pampered little princess wants to have snowdrops on New Year's Eve and promises to give a basket full of gold to whoever brings her the flowers. A cruel stepmother forces her stepdaughter to go deep in the forest to find the snowdrops. It's been performed at theatres for young people for decades. But it's the first time the story has been set to music. The music score turned out to be a great success with some catchy melodies. The opera appears to be an excellent choice for children on the threshold of the New Year – a mix of a gripping plot and a holiday atmosphere. And of course “All's well, that ends well” – with good defeating evil.
