Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko is getting ready for a new role – that of a mother. The 36-year-old soprano announced her pregnancy on Monday.
The child will be the first for Netrebko and her fiance Erwin Schrott, a Uruguayan baritone. The couple got engaged in late 2007.
The singer's pregnancy has forced her to withdraw from the Salzburg Festival in August, for the second time in a row.
Festival organisers, who criticised the singer for abruptly cancelling her appearance last year, have said they fully support her decision.
Netrebko's manager said she will keep her engagements for as long as her doctors permit her.
