An explosion of energy and freedom, “The No Smoking Orchestra” is coming to the Russian capital to play a gig at Moscow's B1 Maximum club on October 3.

It's a style of music that one of Europe's most popular filmmakers, Emir Kusturica, once called “utsa-utsa” – an amalgam of rock, punk, funk and much more.

“The No Smoking Orchestra” with its charismatic leader, Dr Nele Karajilic, emerged as a reaction to Yugoslav dictator Tito's regime at the beginning of the 80s. Since then the style that music critics once labeled “techno-gypsy-rock” has become popular all over the world.

"The No Smoking Orchestra"

Kusturica, who has been playing the guitar as long as he has been making films, has been a permanent fixture at their shows for over two decades. The Bosnian-born award-winning director goes by the stage name of “Monsieur Cinema” and feels as comfortable on stage as on the set of a new film.

The No Smoking Orchestra has written and performed music for many of Kusturica's films. These include classics like “Promise Me This”, “Black Cat, White Cat”, “Life as a Miracle”, and “Time of the Gypsies”.

So get ready to rock, their music will hardly leave you unmoved.
